The Enchanting wickedness (Spoilers ahead)
Some days ago I was finally able to see Enchanted, a film I wanted to see since I first saw the first trailer. Some years ago you wouldn't make me see a Disney movie for nothing in the world, so it's funny how one changes with some time.
The movie made me happy, some parts could have use some work though, more interaction between Prince Cyclops Edward and Elphaba Nancy before them deciding to elope to the fantasy world and marry would have work better, and more interaction between Nancy and Giselle... actually any interaction between them, oh well at least everybody was able to be happy at the end... well except the evil queen but at least this time she had a good motive; fear of losing the throne and with it all the political power and usefullness is actually a pretty realistic motivation, and compared to "being the most beautiful" and "you didn't invited me to your party so you will suffer" makes this queen easier to understand and sympathise. She was probably too paranoid about it as this both the prince and Giselle seemed more busy singing and acting like airheads than interested in ruling... I actually doubt Edward can distinguish between Economy and Ecology XD.
Giselle while very naive at first have useful abilities, not only designing and sewing in record time but great stamina for difficult situations and of course the singing, you never know how useful rats and doves can be :P
I would have liked to have Idina Menzel to sing a song as I have wonderful things about her role as Elphaba in the musical version of Wicked...which got her a tony award... that must mean something.
Actually when I returned to my home a while after the movie I couldn't stoped thinking about Wicked...
I read the novel some months ago, the musical I haven't had the pleasure; as it will be impossible hard to see the original broadway presentation I ended reading the whole Wikipedia entry... it was... very a little different to the novel.
The novel was interesting, at some moments very slow and at some confusing, also at the end it was extremely depresing, there was never any compasion to Elphaba and even worst... she got unjustly infamous. Her dead was practically a joke, and as she was a atheist... to having her be right only about that... is even more depressing, in Wicked... life just sucks...
I probably should do a real review about Wicked... damn I left the book at Mexico city... well some other day will be.
Also I just read the a mexican version will be made about the musical, the role of Elphaba will be played by... Yuridia... it has to be a fucking joke, also the spanish version of the wiki says that she didn't even audition as the producers wanted her for the role... I wonder if her all her cds selling like pancakes popularity has to do something about it... I think I will pass seeing that.
