What are your top 5 books of 2006?
mmm published this year or just read? Well my free time and money has been a little limited lately so I will asume is what I have read. I will put only a top 3 because only I only feel 3 books marked my year.
1-. Fahrenheit 451
This book is pure genious, even if it was published more than 50 years ago the elements it talks about are still very valid to this day, in fact more than ever. Many people doesn't want to read anymore, and fill empty spaces in their lives with mindless tv shows and consumism.
2-. Fables
I started reading this comic this year and quickly rose into my second favorite comic(the first one being The Sandman) I think is wonderful how the author can make a whole universe with fairytales created beforehand. I haven't had te chance to read the one nights of snowfall special but for the moment was the only picture I could find.
3-.Runaways
I just started to read this comic series this year and already has a place in my heart, it has great characters who act like real teenagers, who evolve(and sometimes deevolve) you end falling in love with them.
I'm writing an analysis of the book of Edmundo O'Gorman book "Mexico, the trauma of it's history" ... while listening to the Offsprings song "pretty fly"... god it feels like a holy revelation. O.o
Or maybe it's just may brain deprived of sleep, who knows...
I just found a new webcomic…well not exactly found because the author left the link on a forum to see.
The comic starts when Alan goes to the airport to pick up his cousin that will be staying with him for while, but the first thing he notices is not how tall got his cousin in the last years… but how he is dressed like a superhero.
Turns out his cousin works as a superhero “The Shine” and goes to kick villains’ asses with the ability to… shine… not using light beams or leaving blind his enemies… just shines.
Shine just
started the 9th of November and only has 8 pages for this moment.
But gives you a smile from the first page, I’m sure it will be worth to keep
reading it. =)
*If you have a child out marriage, you can always blame Zeus. (This greeks girls were really smart! ;)
*Every important person MUST be of divine origin, 10 extra points if a
mythical being was responsible for their education, 10 more if it was
Chiron.
*You shall not disobey the gods... EVER
*Strong + intelligent woman + not goddess= Pure evil
*Themis has taken a sabbatical... permanently (Themis is the goddess of justice)
*The war of Troy was probably the most amusing football game in all the ****ing history.
*If you ever see Zeus doing something bad... like kidnapping a innocent
girl for... not too chaste purpose... let it pass. Nobody likes gossipers after all
(right Sisifo?)
*There is no way you are going to get rid of a god offspring by sending them to imposible mission, not only that plan will fail also they will become stronger.
* It doesn't matter if you killed your own children, tried to kill your
new husband children, betrayed your own country or the like... you can
still have a place in paradise ![]()
*There. is. no justice.
*Gods are proud, narcissists and lecherous bastards... just don't tell that on their faces... cappicce ![]()
*If the gods are bored, be afraid... very afraid.
*You just can't beat a God... they don't play fair
If this isn't awesome. I do not know what it.
Questionable Content?
It’s not riske site, neither a erotic reading, Questionable Content, is a webcomic about mundane situations with a little futuristic sprinkle. It has computers with more advanced artificial intelligence than the ones of our times. These are the AntroPc, besides the ability to do whatever a real life computer can they talk, cause disaster and even have their version of Youtube when they upload videos of their owners doing wacky things.
But those little futuristic elements are not the focus of the story, the star of the show is the “normal” people and their relationships with each other. There is not actually an objective to find on the story, and it didn’t finish when the boy got a girlfriend.
The charm in the comic is in the dialogue, they could be any conversation between you and me, but by the way is handled you don’t pass a single strip without a smile.
QC mocks EVERTYTHING: fashion, music, people who like music, sex, technology, stereotypes, television whatever the author has in his head in the moment, absolutely nothing is safe.
The strips start with Marten; Indie boy for passion, office bitch as occupation… really, that was his card says. And Pintsize his pervy, disastrous Antropc. After me we meet his best friend Steve, also indie but with more luck with the ladies. Faye, new in town and sassy extraordinaire. Later we meet Faye’s boss Dora, ex-goth in recovery and owner of the “Coffee of Doom” where Faye works. Later in the story new characters get add to the
mix.
All the comic centers in these characters and the places they tend to go, mainly the “Coffee of doom” Since the focus are the dialogues and the evolutions of the characters. Months can pass before we get to the next day. It’s published on the webpage from Monday to Friday.
The art has really improved from the first strip; the author always tries to draw better each day. Every character has particularities and tries not to be a copy of each other; the girls have different body type not just a generic body for all. Some are curvy with wide hips, others are kind of boyish, others are really boyish, and it’s really nice to see a difference between them.
I checked every day. I have more than 2 years reading it and I like each new strip as much as I liked the first one. Its author, Jeph Jacques, doesn’t seem to run out creativity and his strip of the day it’s always a pleasure to see.
Hello everyone, my name is Tania and I am a reading-holic. I am from Mexico and study History. Since very little I have been a fanatic of reading: books, comics, manga, web-comics; you name it and I read it. I love talking about what I like and I like talking about I love to hate too.
I decided to open this blog for reviewing whatever I like, but separate from my personal life. This is actually the English version of a blog I opened a little while ago. This way I can make me heard by more people and improve my English. Since this language is not my native language please forgive any mistake in my writing and any trace of the infamously known “Engrish”
I don’t have a favorite book because they tend to rotate every year I read new things. But I really like Brave New World, 1984 and from love and other demons; of comics I love The Sandman, Fables, Runaways and The Max;. of Manga I love Hellsing, Godchild and any Kaori Yuki work and XXXholic.
I hope my reviews to be useful for you or at least entertaining. =)
