Nooooo!!!!! T.T
This a site that collects tropes, which are conventions that ocur within fiction works, tropes include cliches. If you feel a character to have characteristics similars to others then you may have a trope, if you think that you may see the way a story develops in other works then you may have a trope too. Symbology may also count.
Each and every work of fiction has tropes and probably your favorite work: be it of prose, comic, manga o movie has already a space in this space when the users give a little of their times to show which tropes it contains.
One example is the Sandman section which has tropes as:
- All Myths Are True
- Anthropomorphic Personification: The Endless
- Crossover Cosmology: The sheer number of gods and pantheons.
- Death Takes A Holiday: Subverted and played straight. In the first book Dream is captured by mistake by mystics trying to imprison Death. In a later tie-in book Death takes on human form and wanders the earth for a day, a tradition she performs once every century.
- Dream Within A Dream: The main character being the lord of dreams, this comes up a lot.
- Dying Dream
- The Grim Reaper: Subverted by Death (who isn't grim and doesn't want to carry a scythe, even when formally dressed).
- The Hecate Sisters: As they have always been portrayed, variously as the fates, the goddess Hecate and The Furies (or The Kindly Ones, as they like to be called) are also an aspect of The Three Faces Of Eve, literally. When they see the embodiment of Eve herself in the Dreaming, they refuse to hurt her, since in a fashion, they are her.
- Historical In Joke: many
- I Have Many Names
- Nightmare Fuel: Lots of it, both literal and figurative.
- Perky Goth: Death
Browsing the site is fun as is not only informative but full of witty entries and is ever growing. It can be useful if you are a writer looking for ideas but if you aren't and just have time to burn it can be enjoyable. If you like fiction like you will be in love. Careful because the site is adictive, and if you start you won't stop until you have read EACH AND EVERY ONE of the entries.
I'm watching Yu Gi Oh: The Abridged Series right now and laughing my ass off. Is so damn funny.
I just finished my exams... finally I will be able to go out somewhere or actually read something I want to... My organization skills sucked so I didn't have much free time. (more like I wasted them...)
Comics I bought this week.
- Wonder Woman 21: since Gail Simone started writing. The character is a hit or miss for me but I love how Gail writes.
- Sky doll 2: There are only 3 issues as the series gets out with a really slow frequency but I am fan of Alessandro Barbucci and Barbara Canepa art .I practically waited YEARS to finally read this comic as European editions of comics have become harder and harder to find.
- Wet Moon volume 3: I was just able to get volume 3. I love Ross Campell art and I am really glad he is being getting more attention lately.
Books:
I just started reading a Clergyman's daughter.
The name of the Rose has been on my waiting list like forever... I already have it now I need some time.
In this year I became an adict to Terry Pratchet works... I never actually knew many of his works were available in Mexico until I stumbled with them at the library, now I am trying to get every book my income and time lets me.
Also something kind of related with the above... tv tropes... just ruined my life... I cannot stop browsing that site
